MIA 2, NYM 4; Jacob deGrom, Mets hand Marlins second straight defeat

For the first time in 2020, the Miami Marlins dropped a series. Sunday afternoon at Citi Field, as Jacob deGrom, a former two-time Cy Young Award winner, exited after five innings and a one-run lead, but four scoreless frames from the New York Mets’ bullpen resulted in a 4-2 series-clinching victory. The Marlins are now 7-3 overall, which still tops the NL East standings.

Pablo López, who was brilliant in his season debut against the Baltimore Orioles August 4, worked through the first two innings without damage. However, with the first three hitters reaching base safely to open the third, López coughed up two costly runs, as a fielding error from Corey Dickerson should have gotten López out of the inning allowing just a run.
