Mets pile on Marlins early, hold on for 6-5 win

On Opening Day, an ugly fourth inning was the difference for the MarlinsJosé Ureña versus the Colorado Rockies. Tuesday night was a similar story. The Mets hammered Ureña, crossing home plate five times in the first inning, en-route to a 6-5 victory at Marlins Park.

Jason Vargas was New York’s starter. (Vargas was originally drafted by the then-Florida Marlins in 2004, a second-round selection.) He was effective though somewhat fortunate considering all the hard contact against him, tossing five innings, allowing two runs on eight hits, striking out Peter O’Brien twice.
