Marlins To Take On San Diego Padres

MIAMI (AP) — The San Diego Padres are among the worst offensive teams in baseball but they’re finding some success with homers.

Playing the biggest part in that is Matt Kemp, who looks to continue his offensive surge as Padres face the Miami Marlins on Saturday night.

San Diego’s .236 average is only better than the New York Mets’ .233. That’s a big reason why the Padres (45-52) are 7 1/2 games back of San Francisco for the second wild-card spot.

They’ve managed to win six of nine despite batting .216. However, they’ve hit 12 home runs and 17 of the 28 runs scored have come via the long ball.
