Pedro Alvarez, a former Pirates third baseman who has twice hit 30 home runs in a big-league season, headlines the list of 14 players who signed minor-league contracts and will attend Marlins spring training as non-roster invitees.
Alvarez, the second overall pick in the 2008 MLB Draft, hit 30 home runs in 2012 and 36 in 2013, both for Pittsburgh. He hit 27 home runs for the Pirates in 2015, 22 for Baltimore in 2016 and 26 at Triple A Norfolk in 2017, where he played much of the past three seasons.
