MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — The list of culprits is long in a season gone wrong for the Miami Marlins.
One of the biggest surprises for the Marlins this season has been the struggles of closer Steve Cishek.
Cishek was demoted to the minors following Monday’s loss to the Chicago Cubs, and he didn’t even pitch.
The Marlins struck out 13 times and lost to the Cubs 5-1. Afterward, Cishek was optioned to Double-A Jacksonville.
Cishek lost the closer’s job two weeks ago and is 1-5 with a 6.98 ERA in 19 games.
“We want to take him out of the spotlight of the major leagues and let him work on some mechanical things,” manager Dan Jennings said.
