MIAMI (AP) -- The Miami Marlins have selected the sons of two of their former players on the third and final day of the draft.
High school outfielder Griffin Conine of Weston, Florida, the son of Marlins special assistant Jeff Conine, was drafted in the 31st round Wednesday. The elder Conine played for the Marlins' World Series championship teams in 1997 and 2003 and ranks second in team history in games and RBIs.
Nova Southeastern University outfielder Alexander Fernandez was taken in the 25th round. His father, Alex, pitched for the Marlins' 1997 World Series championship team.
