The Marlins made a sudden change to their 60-man player pool heading into their Opening Day game. Catcher Jorge Alfaro was placed on the injured list Friday and replaced on the active roster by veteran utility man Sean Rodríguez. Additionally, the Marlins announced the signing of outfielder Travis Snider to a minor league deal.
As is the case with Lewis Brinson and Matt Joyce, the Marlins would not specify the reason for Alfaro’s IL stint. But the additions of Rodríguez to the 40-man roster and Snider to the player pool indicate that this is likely COVID-19 related.
