The Marlins placed third baseman Martin Prado on the 10-day disabled list Monday and the way things are looking utility infielder Miguel Rojas will soon join him.
Manager Don Mattingly said Rojas’ badly bruised right thumb, which forced him out of Sunday’s win in New York in the second inning, “was really swollen, really black and blue” before he went to have X-rays performed on it late Monday afternoon.
“It didn’t look like it’s going to be two or three days,” Mattingly said. “It looks like something is up.”
If something is up, Mattingly said, it’s going to mean a lot of playing time at third base again for Derek Dietrich, who started the season at the hot corner when Prado initially pulled his right hamstring during the World Baseball Classic.
