At the 2017 trade deadline, the Marlins picked up outfielder Brayan Hernandez along with Brandon Miller, Lukas Schiraldi, and Pablo Lopez for reliever David Phelps from the Seattle Mariners. With the release of Hernandez, only Lopez remains in the system.
Phelps played only 8 2/3 innings at the major league level for the Mariners, striking out 11 and allowing three runs on nine hits and five walks. After an entire season on the injured list, he split 2019 between the Chicago Cubs and the Toronto Blue Jays.
