The Marlins could not overcome a pair of first inning home runs surrendered by starter Tom Koehler, eventually falling to the Mariners 6-1. The Marlins finally got on the board in the ninth inning thanks to an opposite field home run from Christian Yelich. Koehler surrendered five runs in four innings of work until Jose Urena stepped in and took on the clean-up role, finishing the game while only giving up one run.
The storyline of the game was Ichiro’s return to Seattle, which was well received with a pre-game ceremony honoring him as a member of the 3,000 hit club and standing ovations throughout.
