Marlins Flashback: Bobby Bonilla’s Game 7 HR

Sunday, October 26, 1997—Pro Player Stadium, Miami Gardens, FL

It was the bottom of the seventh, and the Marlins trailed the Indians, 2-0, in a win-take-all Game 7. To lead off the inning was hard-hitting Bobby Bonilla. He had been among their best offensive players during the 1997 regular season, slashing .297/.378/.468 with 59 extra-base hits (most on the team).

What happened next was simply amazing: Bonilla smacked rookie Jaret Wright’s first pitch over the right-center-field wall for the first and only home run of the game.

That cut the Indians lead to 2-1 and sparked the Marlins’ comeback.
