Miami is seeking third base depth as a result of Martin Prado’s injury, according to Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe, and could consider free agent Brett Lawrie, who might not be healthy enough to sign at this point in spring training.
Prado injured his hamstring in a World Baseball Classic contest last week, and after being diagnosed with a Grade 1 hamstring strain, it’s all but certain he won’t be healthy in time for Opening Day. The Marlins have internal options in Derek Dietrich and Miguel Rojas, but Lawrie could be a candidate if Prado’s injury keeps him sidelined for an extended period of time.
