The Marlins haven’t needed many hits in recent days to beat two of the National League’s top contenders.
But on Saturday it caught up to them in a 5-3 loss to the Cubs at Marlins Park.
The Marlins (33-40) mustered only four hits even though one of them was a 411-foot, three-run home run by J.T. Realmuto off Jon Lester in the first inning that gave them a 3-1 lead.
It didn’t last as the Cubs (38-36) answered with two runs in the fourth to end another short start by Justin Nicolino.
The Cubs then tacked on two more in the sixth against Nick Wittgren.
