For the first time since the All-Star break, the Marlins relinquished their hold on fourth place in the division. Their offense had a productive opening inning Thursday night against spot starter Tommy Milone, but never added insurance. The Nationals clawed back in the middle innings, went ahead for good during Adam Conley’s rocky seventh and poured it on in the ninth. The 10-3 final score wasn’t indicative of how close the Fish were to a win.
In what might have been your last look at Dan Straily in a Marlins uniform, he went 5 2⁄3 decent innings.
