MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — One of the Miami Marlins fan favorites will be back for at least one more season.
Ichiro Suzuki’s new contract with the Marlins includes a $2 million club option for 2017 with a $500,000 buyout, raising the guarantee to $2.5 million.
The outfielder, who turns 42 on Oct. 22, agreed to the deal this week.
He can earn an additional $3 million annually in performance bonuses based on plate appearances: $300,000 each for 250 and 300, and $400,000 apiece for 350 and each additional 50 through 600.
Suzuki has 2,935 major league hits after getting 1,278 in Japan.
