How the Marlins captain has tried to remain upbeat through toughest stretch of career

Baseball hasn’t been very fun for Martin Prado since he signed a three-year, $40 million deal 19 months ago to come back and serve as the Marlins starting third baseman and captain.

Even though he’s finally healthy and past a series of hamstring and knee injuries that limited him to 37 games last season, Prado has struggled to find his stroke at the plate since his return to the lineup on April 27 (he entered Thursday’s game batting .119). It’s extended what he says has been the roughest stretch of his career — both physical and mentally.

“It’s been a period of time where literally you don’t know what to do, you don't know how to act, and you’re trying to be yourself every day, but it’s tough and you can get lost at any moment," said Prado, who after enjoying a two-hit, two RBI game April 28 in a 4-1 win over the Rockies has been in a deep funk at the plate (he is 3 for his last 34 entering Thursday's game).
