WASHINGTON -- Giancarlo Stanton can be forgiven for having never heard of Rudy York. After all, York was a Major Leaguer long before Stanton’s time. Like, seven decades before.
But Stanton linked his name with York’s when he homered off the Nationals’ Edwin Jackson in Tuesday’s first inning.
It was Stanton’s 18th home run of the month, which equaled York’s mark for August set in 1937. That’s an old record. And Stanton has two more games, after Tuesday, in which to break the mark.
The 440-foot blast into the left field bleachers at Nationals Park marked a continuation of Stanton’s second-half power surge.
