MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Dontrelle Willis was one of the most popular Florida Marlins players during his time with the team.
His surprising rookie season helped the Marlins win the 2003 World Series and for a brief time he was one of the better pitchers in all of baseball.
His efforts even earned him National League Rookie of the Year honors in 2003.
Unfortunately for Willis, his decline from the top of the mountain seemed to happen just as quickly as his rise.
After trying to resurrect his career again this spring with the Milwaukee Brewers, a neck injury led him to calling it quits and retiring from baseball.
