The Marlins invited ridicule from all corners of the baseball world on Tuesday morning by revealing the underwhelming trio atop their major league starting rotation. Following an exhibition against the University of Miami Hurricanes at Marlins Park, the club announced No. 4 and No. 5, too.
Here’s the whole group:
1. RHP José Ureña
2. LHP Caleb Smith
5. LHP Jarlin García
Each of them with the exception of Smith—an offseason trade acquisition from the Yankees—pitched for the Marlins in 2017 (though García appeared exclusively in relief). Peters solidified his spot with 4 2⁄3 innings in Tuesday’s lopsided game (22-2 final score).
