Already out of postseason contention, the Marlins flipped outfielder Cameron Maybin to the Mariners prior to Tuesday’s non-waiver trade deadline.
The return package headed to Miami was light considering that Maybin is just a rental.
Aside from $250,000 in international bonus pool money, the club acquired Bryson Brigman. His inclusion in a midseason trade is not all that surprising. In June, Bob Dutton wrote for Baseball America that the combination of his performance and lack of opportunity behind an established group of veteran infielders “creates a scenario where Brigman could make an attractive trade chip.
