MIAMI (CBSMiami) — The toxicology reports in the deaths of Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez and two friends are being released Saturday following a lawsuit and a direct order from a county leader.
In a statement issued by Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez, the disclosure of the autopsy and toxicology reports for Fernandez, Emilio Macias and Eduardo Rivero come after numerous requests and a battle for public release.
“The Medical Examiner was prepared to release the information,” Gimenez said in a statement to the media. “However, Florida Fish & Wildlife, a state agency, submitted an affidavit to Miami-Dade County saying that it was conducting a criminal investigation and therefore the autopsy and toxicology report should not be released until its investigation had concluded.
