The 1996 Major League Baseball season was just nine days old and the Florida Marlins had already gone to extra innings in a scoreless game twice. Both of those contests resulted in wins.
The second of those came on this day 25 years ago. The Marlins ultimately broke through with five runs in the 10th to top the San Diego Padres, 5-2.
For nine innings on April 9, 1996, Florida’s Al Leiter and a trio of San Diego hurlers traded zeroes. Leiter allowed just four hits and two walks while striking out eight.
