The Marlins announced earlier today that they were placing Stanton on the 15-day DL, but the MRI revealed that the injury was much more serious than they thought.
Stanton suffered the injury on the final play of Miami's 8-7 loss to the White Sox on Saturday while trying to stretch a single into a double. He is batting .244 with 25 homers and 70 RBIs in 103 games this season.
Stanton has still never played more than 150 games in a season, and the third time he has played less than 105 games.
