CBS’ caveat is that if he cannot capture an ACC Championship in the next few seasons with the Hurricanes he could in their words “slide quickly”. Richt did move up from being ranked 18th last season. The knock on Richt with the Bulldogs is that he didn’t win the big game often enough.
In 16 years as a collegiate Head Coach, Richt is 154-55. The Hurricanes went 9-4, 5-3 in the ACC in his first season. In his 15 years at Georgia, the Bulldogs won two SEC Championships and five SEC Eastern Division Championships.
Richt’s legacy at Miami and beyond will likely be determined on how many division, conference and national titles he wins in addition to how many playoff appearances they make.
