After one season as Miami’s head coach, Mario Cristobal has overhauled his assistant coaching staff.
At least five of Miami’s 10 on-field assistant coaches will not return in 2023, including both coordinators. Offensive coordinator Josh Gattis was fired and defensive coordinator Kevin Steele left for the same position at Alabama. Assistant coaches Kevin Smith (running backs), Frank Ponce (quarterbacks) and Charlie Strong (linebackers) have also departed the program.
The coaching turnover following Miami’s 5-7 season has appeared to slow down the Hurricanes’ recruiting, with only one player committed in the 2024 class — kicker Abram Murray.
