Willie Abreu sat at the dais, bathed in the bright lights of the assembled television cameras, smiled and took off his cap to reveal a new look.
The Hurricanes’ right fielder – who had one of the biggest hits in Miami’s 21-3 regional championship win over Columbia on Monday – had cut his hair short, shedding the trademark Mohawk that made him one of the most recognizable Hurricanes.
“Funny story … actually, not funny at all,” the outgoing sophomore said, the smile quickly running from his face. “This is actually one of the toughest weeks I’ve had in my whole life.
