UM's draft hopefuls showcase their skills — and Hurricanes' new practice facility — at pro day

It was a moment that made Jaquan Johnson pause — then smile.

When the lightning alarm sounded during the middle of Miami’s annual pro day event on Monday afternoon, no drills were disrupted, no one was forced to seek shelter and everyone inside the Carol Soffer Indoor Practice Facility — from the athletes showcasing their skills to the scouts watching them — continued going about their business as if nothing had happened.

It was a marked difference from Miami’s pro day three years ago when a torrential downpour descended on Coral Gables while NFL-bound prospects Artie Burns, Deon Bush and their former Miami teammates worked through drills while many scouts huddled under umbrellas or watched from a dry distance.
