While all of the Hurricanes players and coaches have had to work through their emotions in the wake of Al Golden’s firing Sunday evening, it’s likely the news had a different kind of impact on Hurricanes defensive coordinator Mark D’Onofrio.
Golden and D’Onofrio – himself the subject of much criticism as Miami’s defense has struggled in recent years – have been friends since their days as college teammates at Penn State.
Before coming to Miami, the pair coached together at both Temple and Virginia and earlier this week, D’Onofrio shared his thoughts about his friend’s firing, admitting it hit him and his players hard.
