Midway through Sheldrick Redwine’s college career, some of his coaches — including Manny Diaz, then Miami’s defensive coordinator — came to him with a request.
With the Hurricanes lacking some much-needed depth at safety, Diaz wanted to know if Redwine — a cornerback — would be willing to change positions in the defensive backfield.
Redwine didn’t hesitate and he quickly became one of Miami’s go-to safeties, finishing this season tied for the team lead with three interceptions. On Saturday, Redwine became the first Hurricane taken in the NFL draft when he was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the fourth round with the 119th pick.
