Pittsburgh rolls over Hurricanes to end disappointing season

MIAMI GARDENS — Despite a season full of disappointing losses, the Hurricanes had a chance to salvage bowl eligibility and keep their season alive if they could beat visiting Pittsburgh on Saturday.

Those chances quickly disappeared as the Panthers rolled to a 42-16 victory at Hard Rock Stadium. The Hurricanes fell to 5-7, and their chances of earning a bowl berth became remote.

The loss is Miami’s fifth consecutive home defeat. This season is the first time the Hurricanes have lost five straight home games since 1975, according to The Athletic.

Miami had a brief glimpse of hope early in the game.
