Perez hopes World Cup experience pays off when she returns to UM

Catalina Perez is still awed by what her life's been like over the course of the past month and a half.

The soft-spoken redshirt sophomore, a goalkeeper for the Hurricanes, was in net for her home country of Colombia during the Women's World Cup, which ended Sunday. And weeks after her team was eliminated in the Round of 16 after a 2-0 loss to the United States, Perez struggles to find the words to describe what it was like to play on the biggest stage in global women's soccer.

"It was a dream come true," said Perez in a telephone interview from Colombia.
