The timing of Richt’s announcement was not good for the Miami football program. If his decision had been about two weeks ago departed former Defensive Coordinator Manny Diaz would likely have been a lock to be Richt’s successor.
An earlier decision would also have helped the Hurricanes recruiting class that just signed their National Letters of Intent during the early signing period from December 19-21. Now the recently signed players could request a release from the NLIs and the players who are considering Miami to sign in February could sign elsewhere.
The names that have been suggested on social media to replace Richt were very predictable.
