Among the younger Miami Hurricanes’ receivers who stepped up during preseason practices, which culminated with UM’s second scrimmage of camp on Saturday, second-year wideout Xavier Restrepo looks primed for a breakout season.
After seeing limited playing time in 2020, Restrepo has followed up his impressive spring camp with strong showings in both of Miami’s preseason scrimmages this month.
In the first scrimmage last weekend, he had five receptions, which has become routine for the Deerfield Beach High alum, according to coach Manny Diaz.
Restrepo had “a couple” of touchdowns in the team’s second scrimmage on Saturday, capping off a preseason camp in which he’s mainly been used as the backup slot receiver behind fifth-year senior Mike Harley.
