The game was back and forth late after the Miami Hurricanes had a 16 point second half lead. It never felt completely secure. Miami led by eight at halftime and stretched the lead to 16 early in the second half. North Carolina chipped away at the lead throughout the second half.
North Carolina’s Joel Berry tied the game at 88 on a three with four seconds remaining. That set up Newton’s buzzer-beating heroics. The win was huge for Miami. It keeps their hopes alive for a double bye in the ACC Tournament.
Miami is currently tied with Virginia Tech for sixth in the ACC.
