Carey’s decision was a big blow in a tough day for the Miami Hurricanes basketball team and the Athletic Department in general. The Miami basketball program also found out earlier on Wednesday that the nation’s fifth-ranked power forward, C.J. Walker who had Miami as a finalist was attending Oregon.
Carey and Walker’s decisions fell through the cracks on a day when the Miami football team’s leading receiver and kick returner Jeff Thomas left the team. Losing Carey is a big blow for Jim Larranaga and the Miami basketball team. Carey’s father Vernon Sr. was a member of the 2001 National Championship Miami football team.
