Miami’s turnover chain went viral in week one, and it didn’t take long to discover the background surrounding the massive logo chain.
Miami cornerbacks coach Mike Rumph contacted a local jeweler (AJ Machado from AJ’s Jewelry), explaining that the Hurricane’s defensive coordinator Manny Diaz was looking for a way to reward players for getting a turnover.
Vince Wilfwork – a Miami alum and two-time Super Bowl Champion – happened to be in Machado’s office at the time. The nose tackle suggested a link chain and a week later the turnover chain was born.
The Miami Hurricanes football team broke out the turnover chain in week one, and the craze swept the nation.
