The Miami Hurricanes defense was one of the best in the country in 2017. With seven returning starters there is no reason to believe that will change in 2018. Miami led the nation in sacks last season, were third in turnovers and fourth in tackles for loss.
Several Miami starters are getting preseason notice as potential All-Americans in 2018. Safety Jaquan Johnson who was the Miami team MVP last season was named a first-team All-American by both Athlon and UPI.
Linebacker Shaq Quarterman was second-team by UPI and third-team by Athlon. Cornerback Michael Jackson surprisingly received first-team All-American from UPI.
