Miami jumped out to an early lead yet again thanks to the bat of Zack Collins. Carl Chester led off the game with a base hit and then moved to second on a sac bunt by Christopher Barr. Collins then shot one to right field to drive in Chester and give the Hurricanes a 1-0 lead.
Later in the first inning, the Hurricanes picked up a 2nd run on a double-steal. It was an extremely questionable call at second, one that led UCF’s manager Terry Rooney, to have a heated exchange with the second base umpire. But the Canes take it and they got out of the first inning with a 2-0 lead.
