The Hokies are the Miami Hurricanes fourth biggest rival in terms of games played. The only opponents Miami has played more often are Florida State, Florida and Pittsburgh. The Hurricanes have won three of their last four games against Virginia Tech.
Both teams have played far below expectations entering the season. Miami entered the 2018 season ranked eighth in both polls. Virginia Tech was 17th in the AP Poll and 20th in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
