A little more than a month ago, the Hurricanes were a team in trouble.
They were coming off the worst loss in program history and had just fired their coach. Key players – including their star quarterback and several linebackers – were dealing with injuries. One of their top cornerbacks was grieving the loss of his mother and many outside the Miami locker room figured the reeling Hurricanes were on their way to yet another lost season.
Instead, Miami used the events of the last month as motivation and rallied. And now, after a 29-24 win over Pittsburgh on an unseasonably warm Friday afternoon at Heinz Field, the Hurricanes have finished the regular season with a pair of wins that will likely send them to one of the ACC’s top-tier bowl games.
