Applewhite and new Miami Football Head Coach Manny Diaz worked together at Texas from 2011-13 under current North Carolina Head Coach Mack Brown. Applewhite was the Co-Offensive Coordinator and Running Backs Coach in 2011 and 12.
He remained the Offensive Coordinator and moved from running backs to quarterbacks in 2013. Diaz was the Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers Coach.
Applewhite was fired by Texas after two games in 2013. He was out of coaching in 2014 following Brown’s “retirement” and new Longhorns Coach Charlie Strong not retaining him. Texas gave Applewhite a one-year severance package.
Applewhite has been leading college offenses as a Head Coach since 2006.
