Jaelan Phillips spent two seasons with UCLA after he was the nation’s number one overall recruit in the Class of 2017. Phillips is by far the top player accrued by Diaz and his staff since they took over the Miami football program on December 30. Phillips becomes the sixth transfer added in the Diaz era.
Phillips was projected as a weakside defensive end coming out of high school. If he is eligible this season Miami will have one of the most formidable defensive lines in the country, especially on the outside. In two seasons with the Bruins, Phillips had 41 tackles, eight tackles for loss and 4.
