The Hurricanes opened the game by scoring the first 16 points, extended the lead to 20 early second half after leading by nine at halftime and survived the Panthers in the final minutes to win.
The Hurricanes lost the 16 point lead after Pittsburgh went on an 18-2 run to tie the game in the first half. Miami used a 13-2 run early in the second half to extend the lead to 20 before another Panthers comeback. The Hurricanes closed the first half with a 13-4 to get more than half of the game-opening lead back by halftime.
