Miami moved to 7-2 on the season with a win over the UMBC Retrievers in the first game of a three-game series. The Hurricanes played very sloppily defensively in this game, especially early on, but nevertheless recovered and cruised to the victory.
The top of the first got off to a rocky start for Miami’s defense. An infield single started the inning, but the second batter knocked a textbook double play ball to Anthony Vilar. Vilar didn’t field the ball correctly however, and UMBC had runners on first and second with no outs. Evan McKendry got a strikeout for the first out in the inning, and then a groundout for the second out.
