Marquez Williams hopes strength, experience help him capitalize on chance at Miami

Miami fullback Marquez Williams made an impression on his teammates with a big day in the weight room just before training camp started.

When the phone call came, Marquez Williams was more than a little surprised.

By the time it ended and Hurricanes coach Mark Richt had offered him a spot on Miami's football team, he was in tears.

It was the kind of moment most Division II football players would want, a sudden chance to play at a major college program steeped in tradition. But for a Division II player who just so happens to hail from Athens, Georgia — where Richt's name is still revered by so many after he led Georgia to 14 consecutive bowl appearances and a pair of Southeastern Conference titles — it was the stuff of dreams.
