With a little more than nine minutes left in the first half, the field was cleared and fans were urged to seek shelter after lighting was detected near Sun Life Stadium during the Miami Hurricanes’ home opener Saturday night.
The decision to halt the game came just after the Hurricanes’ had a 70-yard return by Corn Elder called back when officials determined another player called for a fair catch on a Bethune-Cookman punt. Miami had a 10-0 lead in the game when it was delayed.
The Hurricanes’ first touchdown of the season came when Brad Kaaya connected with Stan Dobard on a 5-yard pass with 6:42 left in the first quarter.
