The Miami Hurricanes’ basketball program was dealt a huge blow when incoming freshman Lonnie Walker sustained a knee injury that will require surgery.
Walker tore the meniscus in his right knee during a Tuesday workout. There is no timetable on his return.
“Lonnie suffered an injury in practice,” coach Jim Larrañaga said in a statement released by the school. “The timeframe for his return will be determined after the surgery.”
Walker, who played at Reading High School in Pennsylvania, was a McDonald’s and Jordan Brand Classic All-American. He is one of UM’s most highly-touted recruits in recent history.
