People stood. People cheered. Manny Diaz won his first day. He sat smiling between his athletic director, Blake James, and the most public board of trustee member, David Epstein, after offering a winning line Wednesday morning upon being introduced as Miami’s newest football coach.
“There was a time we called this ‘QB U,’ ” Diaz said. “That can happen again.”
The first five rows of properly positioned boosters and fellow athletic department members soon stood and cheered long and loud as Diaz basked in the scene. Just as the moment deserved.
And Al Golden was four years before that.
