Hyde: Big smiles today for Mark Richt, bigger expectations tomorrow

The oddest part of this marriage? It's not the smiles on Miami fans, because Mark Richt checks all the boxes. He wins consistently. He has a squeaky-clean image. He comes from a big-boy college in a big-boy conference, meaning no training wheels are necessary.

What's not to like? Richt also is a local kid from Boca Raton and a University of Miami alum from the days this championship stuff started.

Good man. Good move. Good heavens, someone fly a banner over campus saying, "This is off the Richter Scale!"

Which leads to the underlying oddity in Wednesday's hiring: Miami's eight-win season wasn't enough to allow Al Golden to make it to the end.
