The Miami Hurricanes’ baseball team squandered an opportunity to put themselves firmly in the driver’s seat of the Gainesville Regional.
With top regional seed Florida already eliminated, second-seeded Miami missed its chance to streamline its way to the regional final with a 10-2 loss to No. 4 seed South Florida in a winners’ bracket game that included an 82-minute weather delay on Saturday night at Florida Ballpark.
Instead of UM starting the regional 2-0 with its toughest competition already out and two cracks at whichever team comes up through the losers’ bracket, it’s USF in that prime position.
